One of the popular forms of entertainment for the family especially in the West coast cities seems to be the theme parks. On my recent trip to the west I managed to visit the most popular ones, namely Sea World, San Diego; Disneyland, LA; and Universal Studios, LA. Most theme parks are built on the same logic. There are a no. of rides /shows/ events going on inside the campus of the theme park. As we enter the park, we are given a map with timings for different events. We then have to plan our day by priortising what all we wish to do.Each one them had its own individual charm.
Sea World, San Diego is around 3 hrs from LA. As a kid I had always wanted to see dolphins. I remeber once in school each one of us was asked which animal we relate to and I had said dolphin and 3 good reasons for that? well, its elegant, friendly and intelligent. And my curiosity about dolpins had even more increased ever since to be satisfied on this day in Sea World. The best of all shows was the Star performer 'SHAMU', a killer shark. Each show was like a skit acted out where animals were the main characters. A story was wound around Simple tricks and acions of the sea animals. All this accompanied by excellent stereophonic music. To watch the animals play in water was so joyful and filled with wonder.
Disneyland is a themempark where you have to relive your childhood in order to enjoy the shows like a kid. there was a fantasyland, micky world, treasure island, land of tommorow. These worlds were as exciting ans awesome as thier name suggests. Most of the rides had a long queue even though it was not a weekend and we were not very much interested. We did see quite a few shows though. The shows of the wonderland (2nd theme park of Disneyland ) were modern and quite good.We even managed to a parade which was the best part fo the entire day.
Universal Studios is we could say the most popular tourist attraction of Los Angeles. A trip to LA is incomplete without seeing where the Hollywood movies are made. We started with the trolley tour which takes us around the entire studio and various real life settings of flood, river, snow, fire etc. Then there were lots of shows and we could pick and choose what we wanted to watch guided by the map given to us. The popular ones are Jurassic Park, Starwars, The Mummy , The Shrek etc. Every show had a flavour of hollywood and worth spending more than one day.
